Wednesday, November 29, 2006 She feels helpless, she says, because there's nothing she can do: "There's no way to fight it." The Cherokees, on the other hand, do not pay gaming profits to any individual member. The money funds the government, social services and job creation. This is a voting rights issue more than a money issue. Some, however, Disagree. There are real consequences for the Indian Nations that are playing out all over America Today. It concerns Tribal Membership, blood lines, and an increase in expulsions from various Tribes. The removal of many members of various Tribes have caused concern because a lot of these members have no recourse whatsoever. To some, this is just another form of ethnic cleansing. To others, it is a denial of their heritage and their identity as Native Americans. Although, you are about to be presented with a story that talks about Casino greed, it is this writers opinion that the matter before us all goes much deeper. It strikes at the Heart of the soul and the future of Native American Culture. Sure, you may think, that some of those members may have been sloppy with the paperwork and pedigrees necessary for enrollment. However, the casualties continue to mount up to thousands that are being taken off the membership rolls for a multitude of undefined reasons. In our Native American Journey, I call this a sad day for us all. History is sure to look back on this dilemma as tragic; but more importantly, Creator's will prevails. I pray for our people today. I pray that they will be guided with wisdom and by the Spirit of their ancestors and that the Elders will do their best to see that no further harm comes of this. Today I will pray for this. Todays Native American News article-- USA TODAY- Native American? The Tribe Says No Elder's Meditation of the Day - November 29 "Life, the circle, a measurement with no beginning and no end." --Phillip Deere, MUSKOGEE-CREEK The circle teaches us how the Creator made things and how to live. It teaches us how we should look at creation. Life travels in a circle. In the East is the baby, to the South is the youth, in the West is the adult and in the North is the Elder. Then we return to the Earth Mother to start the cycle again. We observe what is `around us' from the center of the circle. This develops our point of view. We must be careful not to become self-centered. |
