BROUGHT TO YOU BY SNOWWOWL.COM-NON-COMMERCIAL NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL WEBSITE A QUESTION OF RACE - GRANDFATHER TELLS
Spirit Hawk ^i^This is not a traditional story, as most that I tell. In fact it is a story fresh from my heart and written by me recently.
A young boy sits at his grandfather's knee.
He listens as his grandfather tells him how all races, Black, White, Red, and Yellow are related and that we are all brothers in the eyes of our Creator.
After his grandfather is finished, the young boy sits quietly and thinks of what his grandfather has told him.
After a bit he asks his grandfather if he might ask him a question.
"Of course grandson" answered Grandfather " What is it that you wish to ask?"
"Grandfather, you have told me that the Four Legged Tribes and the Winged Tribes are also our brothers."
" Yes, that is so." answered Grandfather.
"What Race are are they then?" the boy asked.
Grandfather chuckled and answered,
"Every day more and more of their land is being taken from them.
Every day they are forced to live in smaller and smaller areas.
They are forced to live in ways that are not natural to them and they are criticized and punished if they do not do so.
They are punished for being as the Creator made them!"
Grandfather paused to let this sink in and let his grandson think on it.
Finally Grandfather asked, "So what race do you think they are grandson?"
Without hesitation the little boy answered, " I think they are Indians just like us."
Grandfather smiled.
He then placed his hand on his grandson's shoulder and then as a tear suddenly rolled down his cheek he said, "Yes, I think it is so." .....
