A MATTER OF BLOOD - DO YOU REALLY NEED TO BE TOLD WHO AND WHAT YOU ARE? December 10, 2007
Spirit Hawk ^i^Here we go folks...This is just another of one of the many subjects that needs attention.
As usual, I jump in with both feet even though I never learned to swim. LOL
There are many of us with the blood of The People flowing through our veins.
Some are full blood and many are of mixed blood.
Not a day goes by that I don't hear how being one, or the other, effects someone's life.
Face it people, we had no choice in choosing our parents and no matter what their bloodline they still deserve our respect.
That being said, I can tell you truthfully, factually and without prejudice of any kind, that I have met full bloods that acted more White than they did one of The People.
I have also met those of mixed blood that were more like one of The People than anything else.
Yes you can argue that the quantity of blood makes you more one of The People than those of mixed blood.
Technically and in a sense you are right. But only partially so.
Being one of The People is more than just blood.
It is about honoring traditions and ceremonies.
It is about respecting Mother Earth, all things on it, each other and the Creator above.
It is a way of life!
There was once a fellow who believed only in a pure race, a superior race.
His name was Adolf Hitler!
This also brings up the issue of those trying to trace their lineage to prove their "Native" blood.
Let me ask you a question.
Who are you trying to prove it too?
And why?
Is it so you can be accepted into a tribe?
Sure that would be nice, but it doesn't change your bloodline one whit.
Are you trying to prove your bloodline to the government?
I ask you, do you really need either a tribe or the government to tell you who you are?
If so, I think you have more problems than just tracing lineage.
Also, consider this, there are many true, legitimate tribes that are not now, nor never have been, recognized by the Federal Government.
Even with those that are recognized, there were many, and people I do mean MANY, that flatly refused to be listed on any rolls, for any reason!
If your ancestor happened to be one of them, then good luck proving your lineage 'cause it's not likely to happen.
Now there's nothing wrong with searching for your ancestors, and wanting to know where you came from, but do it for the right reasons.
Do it to show them respect and to pass the knowledge on to your children.
NOT to prove to someone else who you already know you are.
Do not worry about the quantity of a race's blood that flows through your veins, instead concentrate on the quality.....So says, Spirit Hawk ^i^
