My husbands great grandmother was full blooded Iroquois Tribe. From her photo it looks like she was American. I am sure she had to blend in with the American way of life and dressed like that and cut off her long hair. Her husband was French Canadian and they lived in Vermont. It was the 1800's. So sad no one wrote down names and dates to trace history. I believe they tried to hide the fact that people married Native Americans.
